A Superb set - a classic series remastered - This 10 disk set contains the entire first season of the original series of Star Trek. Each episode has been digitally remastered and the some of the effects have been redone using todays technology. This has devided Star Trek fans - some prefer the series as it originally was shown - others prefer it with these new effects. I must admit I think they have done a superb job on creating these new special effects. They have concentrated mainly on the ships and in my opinion this does not spoil your enjoyment. The music has also been rescored and again an excellent job has been done.Of course no box set is 100% perfect. The packaging is not great and is prone to damage - particually the plactic case. It would have been nice to have slip case packaging with armary boxes. My other gripe is the episodes are in transmission order rather than the order they were shot which spoils the character development somewhat. Also the series first pilot The Cage has not been included. I also don t like the dvd/hddvd double sided format - it would have been better to release one dvd set and one hddvd set - perhaps then they could have included the original versions of each episode on the other disk side. It would have then kept fans happy.Still these are only minor gripes. This is a superb box set and well worth adding to your collection. I hope they hurry up and release the second and third season with the same improved special effects.
and I thought mine was a catch! - Somebody told amazon never deliver this item, not true, I just recieve mine today, very nice looking metalic box set. I tought I was so lucky to buy this for 24 pounds, and it s hard to believe it s even cheaper today at 14 pounds! What happened to all ST fans out there?!
Trek Gets The Lucas Treatment - The very best of classic trek (what more can I say about the episodes)- but there are 3 main points that for me spoil this set and reduce the rating from 5 to 4 stars...1. The George Lucas Treatment - This show was made in the mid-60 s, it was never going to meet modern effects standards, and for me that was half the joy of it - cheesy effects. The new CGI effects stand out against the cheap sets, bad makeup and other wise old TV effects.2. Episode Order - Why isn t this set in correct order? I believe the order is US air date order rather than production order (much like the original DVD release) and for me ruins a Trek marathon and I still go back to my old VHS collection when I want a long classic trek marathon viewing session.3. The Cage missing - Once again Paramount have for god-knows why not put the 1st pilot episode The Cage on this set. Yes I know the 2 parter The Menagerie is a reworking of it, but I enjoyed the old VHS episode order of having the episodes in production order and there for this excellent feature-length pilot at the beginning of the set.All in all, the picture quality isn t all that much better as far as I can see and the CGI enhancement spoils the charm of watching a classic 60 s TV series much in the same way the Enhancements to the star wars movies spoils that experience.
Star Trek TOS Hd Dvd Remastered - Absolutely fantastic for any star trek fan.The computer generated imagery really brings the first series alive. Well worth it.
Great but what about a blu ray release??? - One of my fave tv shows of all time, the first series of trek along with the prisoner, red dwarf fawlty towers, babylon 5 and the new BSG This dvd set is great, the new cgi is tastefully done and segs in nicely with the old footage. I have a lot of my fave episodes recorded onto dvdr from the tv with the old footage in so i m not bothered that they have redone the special effects. The normal footage looks cleaner and a bit less grainy with a decent color balance and the sound is improved over older versions.recommended.
